No Child Left Behind
Parent Notification of Teacher
Qualifications
Under the
requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, parents can
request information about any of their child’s teachers.
Under the law,
parents have the right to know:
- Whether a
teacher has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the
grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides
instruction;
- Whether a
teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status
through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been
waived;
- The
baccalaureate degree major of a teacher and any other graduate
certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of
discipline of the certification or degree.
Parents who would
like to learn the certification status of their child’s teachers can
find the information at
www.scteachers.org/CertSearch/inquiry.cfm. Since the names of
teachers newly hired for the 2003-04 school year do not yet appear
on the state site, parents may call Teresa Glass, personnel
director, at 222-7191, to obtain the information. Requests will be
answered promptly in writing.
